look forward to seeing you there…

success at berkeley show

the berkeley springs show was a great success!  thank you to all who came out this past weekend for your continuous support and sharing in conversation…i have always enjoyed this event…i believe it is the multitude of personalities that generate such a positive atmosphere…and the weather was cooperative!

now getting ready for my gallery show in hagerstown, maryland…november 4th reception (5-7 pm)…so if your not busy…check it out.  denny clark has the wall and i have the pedestals…it is going to be a great show!

also…the soda tube is near completion with the construction.  i plan on firing it this weekend…will be my first soda firing…extremely pumped for this…i will be posting several visuals of construction and elaborate with the process on the soda exploration page…

out of the void…

cannot believe my last post was over six months ago…caught between the jaws of school (still digging out of the new Linganore move) and finalizing the basement (only minimal details remain and those can wait until this winter!)

with two festivals and a gallery show approaching…sketches await clay transformation…

a post on the completion of the photo booth construction coming soon…with detailed plans and multiple images of step by step process…

the machine has awoken…

below:  a few things have been made…oval forms for a custom order.  the first two images of a jewelry container… note the ring holders mounted on the inside side walls…  the final two images of a more decorative container with elaborate feet assemblage…

last glaze firing of the year…

successful firing…gorgeous overlay of the glaze combinations.  other variations still exist in my mind that i want to explore (a great winter assignment)…as well as finalize the photo booth mentioned in an earlier post…if only to slow time!

will check back and recap the year and future endeavors…

custom orders in process

lagging behind in the posting…at any rate, a few photos from the studio…a few custom pieces, all at different stages.  some wet work, then trimmed…a few in the beginning of glaze  and others just perched on shelves…waiting a turn in the firing chamber!

the next post…hopefully a sound display of glazed vessels!

studio happenings…

a few custom pieces under way…the mechanical inclination…process revealed…

above…mugs that await handles.

wooden strips and sheet metal screws…things that stamp and impress the soft clay…a repetitive motion; machine…

highlighting some talent from the festival

wanted to highlight a couple of my favorites from the Berkeley Springs Festival…

Lynn Ferris, astounding watercolorist…her methodical compositions rendered with intuitive movement, the brush as vehicle, color and line – a voice of fluidity…(one will hang in our home someday!) see more of Lynns work here, her website.

Michael Price McIntyre,  a potter that places emphasis on beauty as simplicity…and his reflection of this philosophy is truly mirrored in the work he produces, from the perfected contours of form to natural, earth tone colorants that span the surface…a smooth blend…more of  his work can be viewed here…an awesome website…oh, wanted to add…a McIntyre  mug resides in this household…it is a workhorse…i need to make it a pair with the daily use it endures!

a few things happening on the front…custom orders, completion of light box (for photographing work – want to really get the etsy store established…), hopeful plans for an alternative gas kiln…just a small one…for playin’ with FIRE!…moreover, desirable atmospheric exploration…

berkeley springs show

remarkable weekend…pleasant crowd under the sun drenched skies.

also, would like to extend my gratefulness to those who continue to support my work…whether building on a collection or purchasing as a gift…

a few visuals for those who could not make the show…view an album of the show by clicking here

the resurfacing is complete

freshly painted, sleek black pedestals…to provide a more formal ‘gallery’ appearance to the booth.

weekend forecast:  low to mid seventies, no humidity, no rain…a crowd pleasing almost perfect for a fall festive weekend…

final batch of sprayed pieces awaiting placement in the kiln…indubitable thoughts for one last firing before the show…

the resurfacing

the resurfacing…of the once soggy luan sheeting, stained, not sealed…now soiled and decomposed.

constructed these pedestals two seasons ago…stained for the first show…no protectant…pressed for time, thought it would be a safe call until after the show.  misfortune hovered…heavy down pours pelted the canopy tops…gusty winds and diagonal lines of rain soaked the festival grounds.

the delay has been long, but process will soon unveil sleek satin black pedestals…multiplied…
